Prof. Henning Piezunka at the GCEI
On November 26, the GCEI had the honor to host a research seminar by Prof. Henning Piezunka (INSEAD). In his research talk, Prof. Piezunka presented current research with Prof. Fabian Gaessler on the role of Artificial Intelligence in training people, providing the seminar participants with an intriguing example of how management and entrepreneurship scholars can approach and study Artificial Intelligence. The seminar participants not only received insights into his current research but also had the opportunity to personally talk to Prof. Piezunka, providing an example of the Center’s efforts to provide a platform for a fruitful exchange with leading scholars in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation.


Visit from Prof. Wesley Sine
In addition to Prof. Gerry George's visit, we also had the great honor of welcoming Prof. Wesley Sine to the GCEI in the same week. Professor Sine is faculty director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute at Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and is a senior Associate Editor at Organization Science. On April 10, he held a research talk about his current research on the impact of disruptions of institutional orders on new venture failures. He provided impressive insights of how refugee inflows affect new ventures.


Prof. Gerry George at the GCEI
It was a great honor to welcome Prof. Gerry George from Singapore Management University at the GCEI. In his research talk on April 8, 2019, he presented his research on Digital Sustainability and inspired the audience to think about how digital innovations can contribute to sustainability. As former Editor of the Academy of Management Journal, Prof. George provided the participants with a great example of how research can help us to understand the drivers of sustainable developments in economies and societies.


Research Talk by Prof. Christopher Lettl
On March 29, Prof. Christopher Lettl from Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) visited the GCEI and talked about his current research. The seminar participants gained interesting insights about the role of self-promotion and sabotaging strategies of contestants in the context of an online design competition. Prof. Lettl's research provides a great example how scholars can approach novel phenomena such as crowd-sourcing and user innovation.


"Getting Ready to Become a Top Scholar" Seminar
In the beginning of March 2019, a group of ambitious doctoral students and post-docs attended this year's edition of the "Getting Ready to Become a Top Scholar" seminar to learn from senior scholars how they can excel in academia. In addition to receiving comprehensive feedback on their papers, the participants received valuable inputs from the organizers Marc van Essen, Vangelis Souitaris, Joakim Wincent and Thomas Zellweger, as well as from the guest speakers Prof. Marc Gruber (EPFL) and Prof. Filippo Wezel (USI).



Research Talks in December
The GCEI hosted several research talks this December. On December 3, Prof. Tomi Laamanen shared his insights on publishing in Long Range Planning, where he is editor-in-chief. This week, Rasmus Rahm, Director of the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES) visited the GCEI and had a talk on Entrepreneurship Education, sharing insights both from his research as well as from his work at the SSES.

Prof. Miriam Bird at the Global Good Congress
On November 2, 2018, Prof. Miriam Bird presented her most recent research insights on the design of new venture teams at the Global Good Congress, a conference organized by EPFL Tech4Impact and the GoodFestival which is dedicated to sustainable innovation. Both practitioners and researchers attended Prof. Bird's presentation to learn about the role of power and pay distributions within entrepreneurial teams.


Research Seminar with Prof. Dean Shepherd
On September 18, 2018, Prof. Dean Shepherd visited the GCEI and shared his strategies and advices for academic careers in entrepreneurship and management. The audience benefitted from his valuable insights on writing and successfully publishing academic papers.


Research Talks in May
This month, Frédéric Delmar, Dean Shepherd and Gerald George visited us at the Global Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. They shared with us their latest insights into entrepreneurship, business growth and management research challenges. These findings now flow into our own teaching, training and research.



Visit from Thailand
A Thai delegation of leading reasearchers and professors visited the Global Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (GCEI) on Monday, May 28. The goal was to discuss possible cooperations in teaching and research between Thai universities and the GCEI.

Seminar "Getting Ready to Become a Top Scholar"
On February 22-23, the GCEI organized a PhD and Post-Doc seminar called “Getting ready to become a top scholar”. The objective of this seminar was to provide a forum for discussion and give young scholars the opportunity to get feedback on their current work. Further, “hot” topics in entrepreneurship and innovation research as well as essentials of how to get published in top journals were discussed. The keynote speech was held by Prof. Filippo Carlo Wezel, University of Lugano.
